Welcome to the Devotional Downloads

This blog is an humble attempt to bring together a collection of devotional and delightful songs in praise of the LORD. It is said that when these mantras or stotras are recited and chanted with a full understanding of the meaning , they are more effective and potent. It also helps us appreciate and understand the LORD more significantly and subtly. All these are already available on the internet and my heartfelt thanks to all the authors and contributors. I have started this blog with a few of my choice and while the list can never be exhaustive I will try and add more time permitting . Where possible, download links have been provided.

Ganesh Atharvashirsha

It is the practice and Tradition in Indian Religion to invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesha, the Adipathi of the Ganas, to remove any obstacles. Following the same tradition, the hymn has been taken from Ganesha Atharvana Sirsha which sings the praise the Lord Ganesha. The Complete Hymn and its meaning is given below:

Protect me from the west and the east, from the north and the south, from above and below. Protect me from all calamities. Look at me, 0 Lord, protect me.

4. Twam Vang-maya-stwam Chinmayaha

Twam Bhurnir Apo Analo Anilo Nabhaha
Twam Chatvari Vak Padani

This whole universe has emerged from you. This whole universe is sustained and maintained by you. This whole creation is ultimately dissolved by your power, as is merges back into you. Thus you are the earth water, fire, air and sky. You are the source of both words and their eloquence.

6. Twam Guna Traya Titaha

The Muladhara Chakra, the root support mystical center at the base of the spine is Your dwelling place. You are theembodiment of three powers known as Jnana Shakti (wisdom-knowledge power),Iccha Shakti (Will Power) and Kriya Shakti (creative power). The great yogis always meditate on you. kou are Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. You are Agni (fire god), Vayu (wind god) and Surya (sun god). You are Chandra (moon god) and that Brahrna which pervades the earth, space and heaven. You are Om.

7.Ganadirn Puma Mu-charaya Vamadim Tada Nantaram

Saisha Ganesha Vidya

Ganapatir Devata
Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha
Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha
Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha

The first letter in the word Gana is "Guh." That I utter first. Then is the nasal sound "M." When chanted together they become "Gum," your seed sound, 0 Ganesha. This appears like the beautiful crescent moon. This sound is your transcendental form. Guh forms the first letter and "Ah" forms the second letter and "M" forms the final letter. The sound - GUM is the essence of all sounds. I meditate on Nada, the cosmic sound. I meditate on the holy scriptures. For this Ganesha Vidya, the sage is Ganaka. Gayatri is the Metre. Ganapati is the presiding deity of this mantra, and the greatest mantra of Ganesha is Om Gum Ganapateyei Namaha.

8. Ekadantaya Vidmahe Vaktratundaya Dhimahi Tanno Danti Prachodayat
Ekadantaya Vidmahe Vaktratundaya Dhimahi Tanno Danti Prachodayat
Ekadantaya Vidmahe Vaktratundaya Dhimahi Tanno Danti Prachodayat

I recognize the one-tusked elephant-headed Lord Ganesha. I meditate on His twisted trunk symbolizing Om. May that one-tusked Lord enlighten and inspire me. (This is the Ganesha Gayatri.)

9. Elcadantam Chatur Hastam Pasham Ankusha Dharinam
Radham-cha Varadam Hastair Bibhranam Mushaka Dhwajam
Raktam Lambodaram Shurpa Kamakam Rakta Vasasam
Rakta Gandha Nulip Tangam Rakta Pushpaihi Supujitam
Bhaktanu Kampinam Devam Jagat Karanam Achyutam
Avir Bhutam-cha Shrisht-yadau Prakrite-he Purushat-param
Evam Dhya-yati Yo Nityam Sa Yogi Yoginam Varaha

I meditate on the one-tusked Lord Ganesha's face. He has four arms. He is holding a noose in His upper right hand and holds the goad with His upper left hand. In His lower left hand he is holding a tusk, and he is showing the gesture of benediction with his lower right hand. Her has the banner of a mouse. His color is red. He has a big belly showing that all the Lokas are contained within Him. His ears resemble winnowing baskets. He is clad with red-colored clothes. His whole body is smeared with red sandalwood paste and he is worshipped with red flowers. He melts for his devotees and protects them. He is the primal cause of this universe. He is the deathless principle. He manifested before this creation. He is beyond Prakriti, the
primordial energy, and Purusha, the individual soul. Whoever meditates on him thusly everyday, that yogi is greatest among yogis.

10. Namo Vratpatayei
Namo Ganapatayei
Namo Pramatha-patayei

Sri Varada Murtaye Namo Namaha

Salutations to the Lord of the divine species. Salutations to the Lord of the ganas. Salutations to the attendants of Lord Shiva. Salutations to the cosmic-bellied one, the one-tusked elephant Lord, the remover of obstacles, the son of Lord Shiva. Salutations to the one who showers his blessings.

Such a one will never meet with any obstacles or calamities, will he happy always, will be free from the five great sins known as killing a child, killing a woman, killing a cow, killing a Brahmin and attempting to commit suicide. By
reciting this prayer in the evening, one becomes free of sins incurred during the day. By reciting this prayer in the morning, one becomes free of sins incurred during the night. This who recite this prayer both morning and night become free of all karma and attain virtue, wealth, love and liberation. One should not teach this holy prayer to people who have no faith in God. If this prayer is taught only for the sake of money, one will lose its blessing. With devotion, if one chants this prayer a thousand times, all wishes will be fulfilled.

One gets divine knowledge if one observes fasting and recited this prayer on Chaturthi day (the fourth day of each fortnight, which is special to Lord Ganesha). Sage Atharvan revealed this text for the good of mankind.
When one recognizes the power of this prayer, the veil of Maya will disappear and one will be able to see God and become free of fear.

Ya Evam Veda Iti Upanishad

Durva grass is dear to Ganesha. Whoever offers Durva grass to Ganesha with devotion becomes wealthy as Kubera, king of the Yakshas. Offering parched grain to Ganesha brings wisdom and fame. Offering one thousand sweet balls (Modaka) to Ganesha brings the fulfillment of all wishes. One gains supreme happiness and desired objectgs by pouring oblations of ghee into the fire while chanting Ganesha Mantras, particularly those taught herein. One attains radiance like the sun by teaching this Atharva Shirsha to eight deserving disciples. Realization of a mantra deity comes to one who recites this prayer in a holy place during a solar eclipse. All obstacles become thereby removed. One becomes free from all sins and mistakes. One gains the highest wisdom and all wishes come true. Yes, verily, all wishes come true. This is the declaration of the
Upanishad. So be it. Thus ends the great prayer known as the Ganapati Atharva
Shirsha.
